Millions of K-12 students across the country have moved from the classroom and behind a computer screen in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But what is happening beyond the screen? This special Dow Jones News Fund project produced by 15 digital media interns from across the U.S. explores the strained mental health of students and adults, the equity — or lack thereof — of resources and the challenges that come with remote learning.

In Hawai’i, COVID-19 has an especially consequential impact on the state’s special needs students, a population that makes up 10.6% of the student body. Dow Jones News Reporter Mariya Murrow has the story.
